National River Clean Up - Save Our Waterfalls & WS 3rd Anniversary

Us, taking picture with our 'catch'
Last Sunday, I join a community service program organised by Waterfall Survivor. The activity was this; we were to clean Sg. Liam.
I believe this is the first time I joined an event organised by outside (the campus) organisation. Oh, there once an activity in Cameron Highland where we joined venture with an organisation.
So this is my second time.
Nonetheless, here briefly how the day goes:
At 6.30am, gather at our meeting point to fetch up my friends.
At 7.00am, arrived at the gathering point, in Petronas Station near The Curve.
At 8.00am, depart to Sg. Liam.
And after that, I sort of lost the track of time. I recalled that after briefing and a quick warm up session, we begin to form groups and collect the rubbish that were scattering all over the place at around 9am.
We were told that our cleanup session would be till 12pm. I was wondering why would the time be too long.
But as my eyes set on the place, the answer become obvious.
The place was a nightmare! Like I said, there were rubbish scattering all over the place!
All manner of items where there. Tin cans, plastic begs, bottles, but mostly were polystyrene. Heck, I even find unused shorts and slippers!
It's sad really. Sg. Liam would had been a great getaway, with nice and cold river plus cool, lush greenery.
But people, when given such gift, often took it for granted.
And it soon been proven. No sooner did we finish cleaning out the rubbish, new ones begin to pop up from the new visitors who came after us. Are they actually WAITING for us to CLEAN up THEIR MESS so that they can MAKE A NEW ONE?!

They even throw away carpets!!

People, learn to appreciate what God had given to us. We only have one Sg. Liam (or any rivers for that matter), take care of it from pollution. We only have 1Malaysia (haha, feels like I'm making my post somewhat politically orientated here), CLEAN it from corruption. We only have one earth, preserve it.
If everyone took some initiative and responsible in our surrounding, then future generations can have the chance to enjoy what we had right now.

Oh, here's a bit of promotion.
Waterfall Survivors is a social group managed by Waterfall Explorers Sdn Bhd founded on Facebook. It was created on 12th July 2008 (thus yesterday mark it's 3rd anniversary) by Ms Joe Yap, with an aim to meet others who get the same kick and excitement at the thunderous sound of crashing water in the tranquil setting of the rainforest like she does.
Waterfall Survivor booklet
Haha, sorry, I copy paste that directly from the booklet. Anyhow, I glad I managed to join this group on the Sunday's event. They were really sporting and fun. It did not turn out to be some serious moody function or some overly strict event. Everyone were relaxing and having fun, but in between, everyone been educated about the importance of preserving nature and the impact we could bring by participating in it.

Human chain, to transport the trash

A lot, but we manage
Last Saturday, I manage to bring along six of my friends and even manage to grab my sister to join us. So thanks to Amalina, Najwa, Fik, Kak Imah, Atika, Fatima, and my sis for coming along. Hopefully, I could grab more people to join this sort of event, even after graduating. Also thanks to WS, I hope to see you guys again in the next event.

Enjoying ourselves
So Ariff, what's your next event? Hmm...Liverpool (though I AM NOT A GREAT FAN OF IT!), then Jacob Walk of Life...there might be one more hiking, just before Ramadhan.
Oh well, we just have to wait and see.
Till then, remember to CLEAN!
